Naturopathy and Women’s Health
Having specialised in reproductive health and fertility for over 10 years, I have a wealth of experience in women’s health. Health conditions such as endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, thyroid hormone imbalances and premenstrual syndrome are becoming increasingly common. Many women feel ruled by their hormones, either during their menstrual period, during peri-menopause or in some cases “all the time!” If you can relate to this, then I can help.
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a form of complementary medicine that combines several modalities. In my practice, I use nutritional and lifestyle recommendations combined with herbal medicines and nutritional therapy. I focus on taking a thorough case history, completing an in-depth analysis and working with you to set realistic health goals. There are many tools in a Naturopath’s “tool box”, but one that I find very effective is herbal medicine. Herbal medicine is used to resolve symptomatic complaints, improve energy and vitality and where possible, to address the cause of your concerns. Seeing an experienced and well-qualified Naturopath can mean getting on top of your health in a fast and cost effective manner. Trying to treat yourself can mean wasted time and money, particularly on poor quality supplements. In my practice I use prescription only, practitioner formulated herbal medicines and nutritional supplements.
Completing a Masters degree has taught me how to interpret and evaluate research. This means that in my practice, I only recommend tests, nutritional and herbal supplements that have either a long history of safe and effective use, or have been subjected to scientific scrutiny. This means that I avoid ‘fads’ and prescribe evidence-based medicines for safe and effective results.
Naturopathy doesn’t replace a diagnosis or treatment by a medical practitioner such as your GP or specialist. This is why I refer to Naturopathy as complementary medicine rather than alternative medicine. It is a reality for many people as they age that may need medicines prescribed by a doctor from time to time or an ongoing basis. In my clinic, I will work with you so that any recommendations I make are compatible with your current medical care. I respect the choices that clients make and therefore I will not ask you to cease medication prescribed by your doctor.
Modern Naturopathy also includes, where appropriate, referral for functional pathology testing. This may include blood tests, hair mineral analysis or salivary hormone assay. Some Naturopaths use Iridology to assess health traits, however I have moved on from this in my practice as I find modern diagnostic methods provide more relevant and accurate information.
What can I offer you?
I see my role as a Naturopath as a health coach. That means I can provide you with strategies to help you master your health and live life to the fullest. You can benefit from my 12 years of clinical experience, where I have developed tried and true solutions for health and wellness. I have a down to earth approach and try to keep things simple. That means I don’t recommend any hard to follow or extreme methods. We will work together to have you feeling your best.
